Hey everybody, today I will be introducing you guys a facial treatment from SkinLab Medical Spa which is suitable for acne-prone skin types!! :)
For those of you who have been following my blog for awhile, you would have known that my skin is usually doing okay as a whole but headless pimples always come and haunt me without fail every time I get my period! It's extremely frustrating because I can't squeeze any impurities out and neither does any sort of pimple creams have any effects on it.
So, during my skin consultation at SkinLab Medical Spa, I raised this issue that I have to the aestheticians over there and they recommended me their Salicylic Acid Peel Facial!
This Salicylic Acid Peel Facial is a new generation facial treatment whereby it has superior exfoliation and allows new healthy, new skin underneath to be revealed.
It is suitable for treating the following skin types:
Acne-Prone and Oily Skin
- Attacks the core causes of acne by getting rid of surplus sebum, bacteria and inflammation from deep inside the pores
- Unclog pores
- Loosen and lift out blackheads
- Evens out skin tone
- Prevents future breakouts from happening
Ageing Skin
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves overall facial texture through exfoliation of both the skin surface and within the pores
Sun Damaged Skin
- UV absorbing properties that helps to protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun
Now, let me take you through the entire facial process :)
This is how the treatment room looks! Excuse the mess as I took this picture after the facial was completed haha
Step 1: Welcome Massage
My first time getting a welcome massage for facials haha. It involves deep breathing of three times where it is well coordinated with the use of essential oil to relax you. :) My therapist guided me to breathe in when her hands was facing me with the essential oil followed by a brief head massage :)
Step 2: Double Cleansing
Like any other facial, double cleansing is essential to remove all the surface impurities from your skin before moving onto the next step. My therapist used a cleansing milk to cleanse my skin and what's different about this facial is that she used rose water to tone my skin after she has cleansed my face to ensure that my skin remains hydrated :)
Step 3: Application of Salicylic Acid
I was pretty anxious about having acid on my face because it's my first time doing acid peeling so I kinda asked my therapist a lot of questions on the side effects and what does the acid really do and what is expected of it hahaha.
The Salicylic Acid was applied onto my skin for about 5 - 7 minutes and my therapist used a low concentration (10%) of the acid on me as my skin is new to acid. She was also very patient with me and made sure that I'm comfortable with the entire application process as well as answering my anxious queries very patiently and detailed too hahaha
When the acid is on the skin, you'll get a slight tingling and ticklish feeling on your skin areas which are thinner compared to others and also when the acid is being washed off, you may also experience slight pain when it has contact with water. But for my case, I didn't experience any pain (thank god) at all, just slight tingling and ticklish feeling when the acid is doing all the work in treating my skin.
Do make sure that you highlight any sort of discomfort to your therapist when you're going through any kind of facials so that she'll be able to adjust the treatment according to your skin sensitivity!! It's really important!
Step 4: Rose Water
My therapist applied rose water soaked cotton pads onto my skin after the acid was washed off from my skin so as to keep your skin's PH level balanced and at the same time ensure that your skin does not become dry when the various sections of your skin is awaiting to have all the impurities extracted out. (This step is the same like how Simply Aesthetics did it for me)
Step 5: Extraction
This facial has by far the lowest pain level of extraction that I've experienced before seriously!! You can really tell if a therapist is skilled or not by seeing how she does extraction around your nose area which is a very sensitive area of our face, and omg, my therapist managed to extract all my blackheads without much pain at all!! It's like slight pinching action. Seriously love it! <3
Step 6: Brow Trimming
After extraction, my therapist did a little bit of brow trimming for me haha
Step 7: Anti-Blemish Ampoule
Next, she applied half of an anti-blemish ampoule on my face to further prevent inflammation from occurring.
Step 8: Facial Massage
Okay guys, here's the part which I've enjoyed the most throughout this facial. The facial massage is super duper shiokkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk and on point!!! You'll get feel that your muscle aches a little bit and the relief of tension that comes after that, omg man it's just damn shiok especially at areas just below my eye and around my jaw area where I feel the most tension at (which I didn't notice until the massage was done). It's super relaxing seriously hahaha. Best facial massage everrrrrrr
My therapist was very thoughtful as well for using a massage gel instead of a massage cream because cream is kinda too rich for my skin type.
Step 9: Shoulder Massage
The shoulder massage was good as well but not as good as the facial massage haha >_<
Step 10: Hydrating and Brightening Mask
Another thing I really like about this facial is definitely the mask! The mask was applied all thew ay to my neck which is extremely rare and my first time encountering it in a facial session!! Usually they only apply up till your chin area or cover your face area only, but not for this one!! The mask smells really good as well and I fell asleep at this point in time hahaha. Major love!! <3
Step 11: Wrap Up
The therapist applied the remaining half of the anti-blemish ampoule and applied sunscreen on my face before the end of the facial :)
And here is how my face looked after the facial!
Lots of red spots because a lot of impurities were being squeezed out of my pores but they all healed up nicely after a few days. My therapist also warned me to look out for more pimples surfacing up around my chin area as it is a normal reaction for more pimples to come up after going through Salicylic Acid Peel as the acid penetrates deep into the skin to push out all the congestions deep within.
This is especially crucial for me as I always get headless pimples every time I get my period and sure enough, more pimples did surface up the next day around my chin area and I was able to get them popped and cleared instead of having them stuck deep inside hehe.
Before I end off this review, here's a picture of my therapist and me hahahaha
I forgot to get her name before I go off so if you are looking for a good therapist for your facials, I would highly recommend her as she is very meticulous and skilled! (Y) :D (Please excuse my messy hair >_<)
Overall, the facial was a super therapeutic and comprehensive one. I especially love the super duper shiok facial massage which managed to take off lots of tensions around my facial muscles as well as the hydrating and brightening mask which covered my entire face and neck area! :)
