[REVIEW] Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation VS Double Wear Light Foundation
Lunarrive
00:32:00
Hi everyone, how’re you all doing? :) Can’t believe it’s been almost 2 months into 2017
already! Time really flies especially when you’re really busy!
In today’s blog post, it is gonna be all about
Estee Lauder; and specifically, F-O-U-N-D-A-T-I-O-N s. (Yeah, you definitely
have a makeup artist & lifestyle beauty blogger here haha) :)
I have been wanting to give Estee Lauder’s
foundations a go for a really long time, ESPECIALLY the very well-known Double Wear
Stay-In-Place Foundation. You have no idea how excited I was (and still is
haha) when I was approached by Sephora Singapore for a Estee Lauder x Lunarrive
collaboration hahaha. ^_^
In this post, I will be reviewing two foundations side-by-side and they are the highly raved Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation and the Double Wear Light
Stay-In-Place Foundation. I wasn’t
aware that there was a Light version for the Double Wear Foundation till I saw
them on Sephora’s online store and I’m so glad that I picked them up as they
have become a staple in my makeup kit especially when I go for outdoor shoots. ^_^
I will also be doing slight comparisons with the
Double Wear BB Cushion, which I’ve previously purchased when it first launched
in Singapore. Thereafter, I will be ending off this review with my thoughts on
the Estee Lauder Micro Essence Skin Activitating Treatment Lotion! :) I bought my mom the full size one previously as a
gift and she loves it haha so I thought I get myself a travel size one this
time. ^_^
It’s gonna be quite a long post but I’m very
confident that all beauty and makeup lovers like me will find this post
helpful! Especially for you ladies who’ve tried the Double Wear Foundation and
find that it is too thick / drying for you! Don’t you worry, I have tips
installed for you so be sure to read on! *wink*
I will first start off with the famously long-wearing
and super matte Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation!
According to the description from Sephora Online,
the Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation is supposed to last all day through
our humid Singapore weather with NO touch up required and at the same time
delivers semi-matte, flawless and medium to buildable natural-looking coverage.
It has a lightweight and oil-free formula that stays fresh throughout the day
and you will not have to worry about oxidization with it. :) It is also fragrance free and non-acnegenic! (Y)
My thoughts and findings:
Pros:
It is
EXTREMELY long wearing
No
oxidization is witnessed
A very
matte finish
Easily
buildable coverage
Cons:
It has a
very matte finish instead of a semi-matte.
It
accentuates dry spots.
It is
difficult to get the right amount of foundation that you’ll need out from the
bottle without making a mess.
Having a very matte finish can be both a good or
bad thing depending on your skin type and occasion which you’re using this
foundation on. If you’re gonna be outdoors for most part of the day, this
foundation will be a go-to for such occasions!
However, your skin will definitely need to be well moisturized and prep before application and for ladies with dry skin, this foundation will not be the flattering one for you as it accentuates on dry spots quite a lot.
However, your skin will definitely need to be well moisturized and prep before application and for ladies with dry skin, this foundation will not be the flattering one for you as it accentuates on dry spots quite a lot.
The shade I picked up was 1N2 Ecru as this was the
closest shade to me that was instock at that point in time and with the neutral
undertone in it, it’ll be easier for me to mix with other foundations to get a
better foundation match when going on makeup jobs.
In addition, a tip to ensure that you don’t get too
much foundation out from the bottle is to use a clean Q-Tip to dip into the
bottle and get the foundation onto the back of your hand or on a metal plate
before applying it onto the face. This way you will be able to have better
control over the amount of product that you’ll need. Usually, 2 Q-Tips (dipping
into the foundation 4 times in total with the clean ends) is just nice for one
full face for me.
I would normally use a sponge to blend this
foundation all over the face instead of a brush because of its heavier
consistency.
In terms of the wear time, you’ll see that in
greater detail in the later part of this post where I will be sharing with you
the actual results of wearing this foundation. :)
Moving onto the Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place
Foundation!
It has similar description as the Double Wear
Foundation apart from delivering sheer to medium coverage.
My thoughts and findings:
Pros:
- It is very
long wearing as well but not as long as the Double Wear
- No
oxidization is witnessed
- A matte
finish with a slight luminous touch
- Easily
buildable coverage
- Watery
and lightweight consistency
- The
packaging is easier to work with
Cons:
- It
accentuates dry spots but less obvious than the Double Wear Foundation.
I love that the Light version has a more watery and
lightweight consistency! It is definitely much comfortable to wear on daily
basis. With its slight luminous glow, you get to have a more radient and
healthier glow on your complexion but MOST IMPORTANTLY, it is still able to
thrive through our humid weather.
Both sponges and
brush works well with this foundation. (Y)
The shades I’ve picked up for this foundation are
Intensity 2.0 and Intensity 4.0 so that I have a darker shade to mix with
whenever necessary. The best match for me would have been Intensity 1.0 (which
is out of stock *sobs*) as 2.0 is slightly too yellow for me.
Like the Double Wear Foundation, the Light version
will accentuate dry spots as well (but not as obvious and serious as the Double
Wear) but because of its lighter consistency, it is easier to fix the dry patches
by going in with a small amount of moisturizer / hydrating primer and blend
away the patches.

During one of my recent work, I prep my model’s skin
by first using a toner to wipe away all the dust and oil on the surface.
Thereafter, I go in with a good moisturizer and a hydrating primer before I
apply the Double Wear Light Foundation. As the Double Wear Light Foundation has
sheer to medium coverage, it is not sufficient to cover up her spots so I had
to go in with concealer to cover them up.

This is the end result that I’ve achieved with the
Double Wear Light Foundation. :) It is
definitely much natural than the Double Wear Foundation and also less tricky to
work with because of its lighter consistency and coverage.
These are the swatches of the foundations along
with the Double Wear BB Cushion. The shade that matches me the best is
definitely the 2W0 Warm Vanilla with the Double Wear BB Cushion, so for the
remaining ones I had to mix around my foundations a little before I could get a
better match. Definitely eyeing for the Warm Vanilla shade for Double Wear and
Intensity 1.0 for Double Wear Light in future for my personal use hehehe!!
Now, are you ready for some side-by-side comparison
between the Double Wear and Double Wear Light Foundation? :)
I will be showing you the before and after photos
of me wearing the respective foundations with absolutely NO CONCEALERS nor POWDERS over them and also how I look after wearing it
for at least 15 hours to let you have a clearer picture on the wear time of
these foundations. :)
Here’s how my face looks with nothing on. Please
excuse my puffy eyes as I was having sore and itchy eyes at that point in time.
>_<
With just one light layer of the Double Wear
Foundation on one side, you can already see that my dark spots are definitely a
lot less obvious now.
Here’s how I look with the Double Wear on the left
side and Double Wear Light on the right. Double Wear Light is certainly a tad
too yellow for me but other than that I really like the texture of it. I also
went in with a 2nd light layer with the Double Wear ONLY on the
areas where I needed higher coverage on the left side.
Close up shot with the Double Wear Foundation!
Definitely flawless but slightly dry looking.
And here’s the close up shot with the Double Wear
Light Foundation! It’s not as flawless as Double Wear but definitely more
natural looking (and more yellow tone >_<).
After spending 16 hours outside at work and running
of errands with just the foundation alone (no concealer or whatsover on any
part of my face) and absolutely NO TOUCH UPs, here’s how the foundations are
looking! My spots are definitely more obvious now and my forehead is a little shinier
now (I tend to be oily on my T-Zone) but on a whole, both foundations are still
holding up very well!
Usually my forehead would have been at least 2x
more shiny than what you see above in the After 16 hours portion and I would
have been a disco ball already in the afternoon. This just shows how well the
foundation is performing with oily skin. (Y) Definitely give it a try for those
with oily skin! But do remember to still prep and moisturize your skin well
before applying the foundation so as to ensure smooth application and minimize
patching on dry areas on your face (if you have oily combination skin).
Up close you can definitely tell that on my drier
zones (my cheek areas), it is patching up by a little but as compared to what I
encounter with other foundations in the market, this is definitely performing a
lot better. The remaining coverage on my face is still rather substantial as
well!
There are other matte foundations which I have
tried in the past that just cakes up at my oily areas and patches at my dry
zones and I would look like a patchy girl. Thereafter, I just never reach out
to those foundations anymore. So wasteful but no choice :(
I’m just really glad that the Double Wear
Foundation didn’t end up like this and I have a way to counter the dry patches
too in the later part of the post! :)
On the other side, this is how the Double Wear
Light Foundation looks up close after 16 hours. It definitely has a lot less
coverage as compared to the Double Wear but I like how the texture is still
smooth after 16 hours with the Double Wear Light. :) So if you’re the natural makeup kind of girl, do
not have a lot of hyperpigmentation in general and want something that last for
a super long time, go for this one!
Here’s another example where by the Double Wear
patches up a little on the dry areas like the under eye area. Be sure to be
really light handed with this foundation when you’re working around your eye
area and if possible, use a concealer that works well for you to cover your
dark circles instead. The one I enjoy using very much is the Urban Decay Naked
Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer.
On the other side of my face, the texture of the
undereye area with the Double Wear Light is still smooth and nice after 16
hours! :) I love it but do have a
concealer with you for touching up on dark areas whenever necessary.
And here’s the comparison of my spotty chin with
the two foundations! Definitely more redness is peeking through after 16 hours
but overall it is still good and would be better if I have added on with a bit
of concealer upon application.
Now, let me share with you some tricks that I do to
minimize the amount patching that I encounter with my dry areas! :)
The 1st method that I do is to mix a
drop of the new Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster with the Double Wear
Foundation! The foundation definitely went on a lot smoother with the drop of
booster mixed with it! <3 The best thing is, the coverage still remains high
even after mixing! This booster is totally a savior in many of my makeup jobs I
swearrrrrrrr especially when working on people with dry skin haha.
The 2nd method is to mix the Double Wear
and Double Wear Light foundations together in 50:50 ratio! The whole idea is to
introduce the slight luminousity that the Double Wear Light with Double Wear’s
high coverage! Application wise was definitely not as smooth as Double Wear +
Skin Booster though I would have to say that I get a better color match than
wearing just the Double Wear Light or the Double Wear alone! :)
Here’s how Double Wear & Double Wear Light
combination looks! Smooth and higher coverage than just the Light version
alone!
And here’s how the Double Wear & Skin Booster
combination looks upon application! Definitely smoother in texture haha.
Here’s how the foundations are holding up after 20
HOURS!!!
Yeah, you guessed it. I wanted to have a short nap
but I ended up sleeping through with the foundations on me. *facepalm*
* PLEASE DO NOT LEARN FROM ME IN THIS ASPECT.
ALWAYS RMB TO REMOVE YOUR MAKE UP BEFORE YOU GO TO BED! *
But anyhoo,
it was a very good test for the foundations!!
Here’s how the Double Wear & Double Wear Light
combo is looking after 20 hours! Definitely a drop in coverage but still smooth
in texture!
And here’s how the Double Wear & Skin Booster
combo is holding up! You can definitely see some uneven skin tone going on my
skin but I think that was mainly due to me always sleeping on my left side
haha. So on a whole the coverage is doing good as well and I definitely love
the texture on this side more on the other side. :)
Here’s how the condition on my chin went!
Definitely worn of on the center portion but considering the foundations have
went through 20 hours on my face, they have done a great job definitely! I
usually get nothing left on my chin after around 8-10 hours. ><
We have come down to our very last product and that
is the Estee Lauder Micro Essence!
From Sephora Online, the Micro Essence is suppose
to activate and strengthen the skin’s foundation tby penetrating deeply and
rapidly into the skin to renew and rebalance the skin to achieve a
youthful-looking glow. It is suitable for all skin types and promotes smooth,
supple skin!
In the past, I’ve bought the full size bottle of
the Micro Essence as a gift for my mom before and she loved it! So I decided to
go pick up the travel size version of it to give it a try!
Just like my Innisfree Soybean Energy Essence, the Micro Essence is also a First Treatment Essence so I use it in my first step of my skincare routine. After using it for a few days, I definitely do not
see a huge difference in terms of having a healthier glow but I feel that it
has helped to maintain the moisture level on my skin for a longer period of
time throughout the day. Usually in the afternoon, I would have felt some tightness
around my cheek area especially when I’m in an air-conditioned environment.
Therefore, I feel that this essence would be awesome
especially for people with dry and / or mature skin to get more radiance and
youthfulness back to your skin. :)

That’s it to this review and I hope it has been a
very informative and helpful one for you all when you’re choosing your
foundation and also when you encounter some texture issues with your
foundation! :)
Be sure to check out the Estee Lauder Double Wear
and Double Wear Light Foundations especially if you have oily skin and / or
your foundation melts off easily! These two babies will definitely be the one
for you as they last all day long (and all night long as well hahahaha) in our humid weather with zero powder needed!
