It's been years since I've suffered from hormonal breakout in particularly around my chin area where headless pimples like to surface at. It's annoying and frustrating because I can't pop them and they would leave behind scars regardless whether I mess with them or not.
One day, I decided to research about this online (I should have done it earlier seriously T.T) that there is an IPL treatment that is specially catered for problematic skin and I was like WOW because I thought IPL is only meant for hair removal hahaha. *Sua ku here lolol*
I was trying to avoid going to a dermatologist for this because that the treatments and subsequent maintenance would have cost a bomb in the long run. :(
Hence, when Expressions approached me for a collaboration, I immediately voiced to them about this concern of mine which have been bothering me for such a long time and my interest in IPL acne treatment to hopefully get rid of the core of these annoying headless pimples.
I'm so glad that they allowed me to try it out and they even included in a IPL brightening treatment as well on top of the acne treatment to lighten my scars. Therefore, I would be sharing with you my IPL facial treatment here in this post so do read on. :)
I opted to go to their Orchard branch as it is more accessible for me and the first thing that was performed when I was there was a skin analysis to see how's my skin is doing.
And everything as you can see is dry, dry, and VERY DRYYYYYY! T.T
I would probably have to increase the number of times I apply my hydration mask per week from now on. Hopefully it'll improve my skin's hydration level! *Fingers crossed*
Now let me bring you through the actual facial procedure!
This is how my face looks before IPL
How my chin looks before IPL
Step 1: Cleansing
Just like any other facial, starting with a clean face is very important!
Step 2: Facial Scrub
The facial scrub was rather gentle and surprisingly relaxing. No tugging or minimal rough sensation :)
Step 3 & 4: Facial Steam & Extraction
A warm facial steam was used to open up my pores to prep it for extraction and to make it less painful. However, turns out that no extraction was required on the day of my facial hahaha. YAYYY!
Step 5: IPL Acne Treatment
We then moved onto the IPL Acne Treatment using Expressions in-house IPL machine around my chin area! A goggle was put on to protect my eyes from the strong rays when the IPL is fired. I was warned beforehand that there would be some hot sensation and if gets overboard I would need to highlight to my beautician. Surprisingly, it was quite okay haha. The hot sensation was quite minimal.
Step 6: IPL Brightening Treatment
Within the same machine, they have a different setting where the IPL is set to give a brightening effect. This was used to lighten the existing scars that were on my chin area and same as the acne setting, the heat was very manageable for me.
Step 7: Face & Shoulder Massage
After the IPL treatments, I was given a face and shoulder massage for relaxation. The face massage was awesome but shoulder was quite normal though. >_<
Step 8: Mask
Finally after the massage, a mask was applied to improve my face's hydration level and an opportunity for me to rest for a short while. :P
Step 9: Wrap Up
The facial ended off with the application of toner, moisturiser and sunscreen. Do take not that sunscreen is very important to prevent UV rays from entering your skin as the deeper layers will be more vulnerable than usual during the first few days after receiving IPL treatment(s). Hence, always remember to apply sunscreen at all times okay!!
Omg my panda eyes is seriously no joke! :(
That is the end of my IPL treatment experience. You can't really see a significant difference in my chin area but in real life, my scars is definitely much lighter as compared to before the IPL treatment. :)
After about 5 days or so upon my treatment, my "aunt" came to visit me and a pimple visited me as well. However, this time it has a HEAD!!! YAYYYYYY *3 days later, POPPPPPPP it out!!!* hahahaha
I know it may sounds a bit over dramatic and I definitely do not expect a 100% extermination of my hormonal pimples from just 1 session but I'm really glad that it's not a headless pimple because at least I can do something about it if it has a head. It's definitely an improvement from my past condition so I would most probably have to got through this treatment a few more times and see if it goes away for real in the subsequent months.
That's the end of this post and I hope it has been helpful for you if you're considering going for IPL treatments for acne and/or brightening. If you have similar pimple condition as me, do share with me your tips as to how you handle them! I would love to hear and try them out. :)
